VIDEO: New Hope Receives Outstanding Partner Award

The Maryland Food Bank works with more than 330 incredible and passionate Network Partners statewide to help expand access to nutritious food while opening pathways out of hunger for more Marylanders.

It’s Hunger Action Month, and at our recent Hunger Action Symposium: Causing Change, we had the opportunity to recognize one partner in each of the five regions we serve (Western, Northern, Baltimore City, Southern, and the Eastern Shore) with “Outstanding Partner” Awards.

In this first of five blog posts, you’ll learn about the great work of Waldorf’s New Hope Community Outreach Center in the Southern region.

New Hope Community Outreach Center has been an MFB Network Partner since 2021, serving the Waldorf community in Charles County. New Hope is a newer partner, but with its rich community ties, they have quickly had a deep impact on the lives of their neighbors.

“Since reaching out to me with a firm vision to support their beloved community in Charles County Maryland, New Hope Community Outreach has initiated a number of programs to help their neighbors,” said Yekatit Bezooayehu, MFB’s Regional Program Director, Southern Region.

In addition to monthly Pantry on the Go events, weekly “Neighbor Choice” food distributions, and regular home delivery to older adults, New Hope offers wraparound services like workforce development and housing assistance to help build more pathways out of hunger for their neighbors in southern Maryland.

“Partnering with the Maryland Food Bank has been monumental for us—they have allowed us to not only feed more of our neighbors, but we’ve been able to extend our wraparound service offerings, which means we can do even greater things for the people of Charles County.”

New Hope Community Outreach Center is ready and willing to help their community with food assistance six days a week and are looking to expand their service offerings in Waldorf.

“New Hope Community Outreach Center continues to be a shining example of strong leadership, community support and dedication to lifting up families and neighbors,” We are happy to acknowledge all of their great work and look forward to a continued partnership,” Yekatit shared.
